After hip surgery, fall prevention is critical for the first 3 months. Remove loose rugs, install grab bars in the bathroom, ensure good lighting, use the walker as advised, and avoid wet floors and stairs without a railing.

Bathroom safety

Install grab bars next to the toilet and inside the shower. Use a raised toilet seat for the first 6 weeks. A shower chair prevents slips.

Floor and lighting

Remove all loose rugs and electrical cords from walking paths. Ensure night lights in the bedroom-to-bathroom path.

Footwear and assistive devices

Wear closed-toe, non-slip footwear. Use the walker for the first 4–6 weeks even if you feel confident — the deep tissues are still healing.
