What is it?
Arthroscopic (keyhole) shoulder surgery for the five most common shoulder problems — not robotic.
Indications include: (1) Frozen shoulder — capsular release; (2) Recurrent dislocation of the shoulder — Bankart repair / labral reconstruction; (3) Rotator cuff injuries — single or double-row tendon repair with bio-anchors; (4) Impingement — subacromial decompression; (5) SLAP / PASTA lesions — labral or partial-thickness cuff repair. All performed through 3–4 keyhole portals using an HD camera and fine instruments.
Symptoms — when do you need it?
Shoulder pain on overhead activity, stiffness, weakness, instability or recurrent dislocation are classic indications.
- Stiffness and pain consistent with frozen shoulder
- Recurrent shoulder dislocation or 'slipping out'
- Weakness or 'catching' from a rotator cuff tear
- Pain on overhead lifting (impingement)
- Deep shoulder pain — possible SLAP or PASTA lesion on MRI
- Pain disturbing sleep; failed physiotherapy
The procedure
Day-care or single-night procedure, 60–120 minutes under regional anaesthesia.
- 3–4 keyhole portals (5 mm each) around the shoulder
- HD camera inserted; joint inspected on monitor
- Frozen shoulder: capsular release
- Recurrent dislocation: Bankart / labral reconstruction
- Rotator cuff: tendon re-attached with bio-anchors
- Impingement: subacromial decompression
- SLAP / PASTA: labral or partial cuff repair
- Wounds closed with single sutures; sling applied
Benefits
Tiny scars, minimal pain, faster recovery and full motion return.
- Day-care or 1-night surgery
- Tiny scars, minimal soft-tissue damage
- Less post-operative pain
- Faster return to work (2–4 weeks)
- Full overhead motion restored
- Long-term durability of repair
Recovery timeline
Sling for 4–6 weeks, desk work in 2 weeks, sport in 4–6 months.
Day-care arthroscopic procedure, discharge same day.
Begin gentle range-of-motion and quad strengthening.
Walk without support, light desk work resumed.
Jogging, cycling and gym strengthening begin.
Phased return to pivoting sports under guidance.
