What is it?
Total hip replacement is a robotic-assisted surgery that replaces the damaged ball and socket of the hip with a long-lasting implant.
A pre-op CT scan creates a 3D model of your hip. The surgeon plans the perfect cup angle, stem position and leg length, and the robotic arm executes the plan exactly — preventing leg length discrepancy and dislocation that can occur with conventional surgery.
Symptoms — when do you need it?
Hip pain that limits walking, sleeping or sitting often signals advanced arthritis or AVN.
- Persistent groin or hip pain
- Stiffness after sitting or driving
- Limp while walking
- Difficulty putting on shoes or socks
- Pain disturbing sleep
- Avascular necrosis or arthritis on imaging
The procedure
Approximately 90 minutes under spinal or general anaesthesia.
- 3D planning of cup and stem placement from CT
- Small incision (8–10 cm) via direct anterior or posterior approach
- Robotic arm guides bone preparation precisely
- Implant placed; leg length verified in real time
- Wound closed and patient mobilised same day
Benefits
Smaller scar, equal leg length, lowest dislocation risk and faster recovery.
- Sub-millimetre cup and stem placement
- Equal leg length post-op
- Lowest dislocation risk available
- Walk same day in many cases
- Smaller incision, faster wound healing
- Long-lasting implant (20+ years)
Recovery timeline
